Archaeological description
Ashmolean Museum: Lead weight with TE written on top left.
Meyer 2001–03: Histrian weight of the autonomous period. Triangular lead weight, 99.85 gr., 6.2 x 6.8 x 0.7 cm. Obv. Facing head of Hermes I. with petasos within raised border. Rev. Eagle on dolphin r., TE[TA] above. AN 2004.27. One-fourth mina. The piece is in poor condition. The upper portion, nearly a quarter of the object, has been torn off, and the brittle surface is covered in dents and blisters. The features of the frontal head caused the maker of the mould some difficulty, recalling the bulbous head on the bronze weight no. 14 in this collection.

circumstances
Meyer and Moreno 2004: In 1996 a private collector of ancient coins received a posted parcel containing 43 metal objects, supposedly lead weights from ancient Istria on the western shore of the Black Sea. These came unsolicited from an antiquities dealer based outside Britain, and given that they would otherwise most likely have been dispersed on the open market, the recipient notified the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and deposited the package at the Department of Antiquities.
