Archaeological description
BnF: Tétramine attique carrée. Plomb. L. 9,2 cm ; l. 9,2 cm ; épaisseur : 1,5 cm (3cm avec les reliefs) ; Poids: 1821 gr. Entre les croisillons, ΔEMO. METPONOMΩN entourant le poinçon. Le droit est divisé en quatre registres sur une croix pattée, en fort relief. Au centre de la croix, un poinçon représentant la tête de Minerve casquée.
Babelon & Blanchet 1895: Poids quadrangulaire. Tétramine attique. L’une de ses faces est divisée en 4 parties égales par une croix pattée, en haut relief. Entre les croisillons, les quatres lettres en relief ΔΕΜΟ. Au centre de la croix, un poinçon représentant la tête de Minerve casquée et entourée de la légende ΜΕΤΡΟΝΟΜΩΝ.
Pernice: Quadratische Bleistücke. Verschollen. Oben in der Mitte Stempel mit Athenakopf und der Umschrift METPONOMΩN. In den Ecken ΔΕΜΟ. Gut erhalten. Wahrscheinlich Vierminenstück. Aus Piräus. Gewicht 1854 3/8 gr. (Einheit 463,59 gr).
Autoptic examination: Lead weight, square shape. Signs of wear and corrosion: chippings; vers light bumps and hollows; very little round hollows on the sides; big white trace on the reverse; greyish. Straight corners, edges and sides. On the obverse, depiction of a four spokes wheel in relief. The ends of the wheel are higher and wider on the edges. In the four corners (between the spokes), letters in relief: ΔΕΜΟ. In the center of the wheel, round countermark barely legible (helmeted head of Athena to the right?). (Height without relief: 1.75 cm).
