Archaeological description
Glass weight. Disc. Colour (Farbe): hellblau. Iconography: No cross. No wreath.
CPAI III/2: Middle of the 6th - 7th century AD Eastern Mediterranean. Weight for a silver coin (half siliqua). Glass, 17 x 3 mm; 0.95 g. Inv. no. PMA 2854. Acquired in 2007. Description: Pale-blue coloured, translucent round weight with a central impression. The block monogram is composed of the letters ΠA in the centre and V O thereabove. It can be resolved as ΠAVΛOV. Glass weights with this monogram are known in various colours. In most of the cases, the genitive reads VO, less often OV. Since Paulos is quite a common name in the early Byzantine period, the glass weight can hardly be connected to a specific person. A Praetorian prefect of Africae and a possible urban prefect of Constantinople bearing this name are mentioned in the 6th century.
