Archaeological description
Glass weight. Disc. Colour (Farbe): dunkelblau. Iconography: No cross. No wreath.
CPAI III/2: 7th century AD. Eastern Mediterranean. Weight for a gold coin (solidus/20 carat). Glass, 22 x 5.5 mm; 3.20 g. Inv. no. PMA 1189. Acquired in 2005. Description: Dark-blue coloured round weight with a central impression. The cruciform monogram is composed of the letters M on the left, A at the bottom, K on the right, and the ligature  at the top. If we read a P within the O of the ligature, the monogram can be read as MAPK, MAVPIKl or MAKPl. Without a rho the names nAKIMcS, KAIOVM or KAMOVK are possible. A similar retrograde monogram is found on a belt buckle dated to the 7th century. Light-weight solidi of 20 carat with an actual mass of about 3.20 g are known from the time of Heraclius and Constans II.
