Archaeological description
Tekin 2014b: This lead weight square in form measures 47 x 48 x 11 mm and weighs 246.43 g. On the face is the protome of lion to right and the letters Λ – Υ – Σ – Ι, each placed in a corner and hardly discernible except lambda. At below, between sigma and iota, there is an obscure eta, i.e. H which stands for hemi and indicates that the denomination of the weight is a hemimna (mna of 492.86 g). While there are two caduceus countermarks on the face there are three on the bottom, two of which are caduceus and one is illegible. The weight is pierced in two places, one in centre and one at bottom left corner. Its mass corresponds to a hemimna; thus, one may conclude that the Lysimachean mna was about 500 g at that time. In the auction catalogues there are similar weights.
Tekin 2018: Square lead weight with rounded corners. On the obverse there is a lion protome jumping right, in relief. On the corners, from top left, Λ-[Υ-Σ-Ι]. Below the belly of the lion is an Η which stands for hemimnaion. The reverse is blank. Pierced in center. On the obverse, there are two countermarks with caduceus and on the reverse, three.
