Archaeological description
Tekin 2014b: This is an almost square weight of lead; it measures 37 x 40 x 5 mm and weighs 61.1 g. It bears on the face a torch between TPIC (above) and KYZI (below). While KYZI is the abbreviation of the ethnic (Κυζικηνῶν), TPIC refers to a tristateron (three staters) in denomination (stater of 20.36 g). Similar examples may be found in other collections. The torch is a depiction frequently seen on the Hellenistic and civic coins of Cyzicus minted under the Roman Empire. Since the ethnic, the badge (torch) and the denominational names are found on the weight, it is certain that this weight belongs to Cyzicus. The bottom of the weight is blank.
