Archaeological description
Tekin 2013a: This square lead weight weighs 39.80 g and measures 37 x 36 x 3 mm. On the obverse, there is a tuna fish to right between ΚΥΖΙ (above) and ΔΙΣΤ (below) which stands for distater. As the denominational abbreviation shows, it is a distater and its mass of 39.80 g corresponds to the denomination. The weight of a lead distater previously published is c. 40 g and there are also two bronze distaters of 29.85 g and 45.20 g respectively. The distater presented here is different from the previous ones epigraphically. In the known examples cited above there is a lunar sigma (C) while in this example there is a four-barred (Σ). The reverse is flat and blank; worn.
