Archaeological description
Tekin 2013a: This square weight is of bronze with lead content; it weighs 106.30 g and measures 39 x 39 x 7 mm. On the obverse is a tuna fish in relief placed diagonally to left. In the right field above is an obscure letter, perhaps M (reverted?) which may stand for Mna (but should be of course linked with Π on the left below; then fifth part of a mna). On the left below is a punched Π (added later?), which may stand for pente (five) that is a fifth part of a mna (penmptaion morion). Since there is no ethnic on the weight it is not certain to attribute it to Cyzicus. But regarding the type (i.e. tuna fish, the badge of Cyzicus) it may be attributed to Cyzicus. Since the weights inscribed with the ethnic of Cyzicus and depicted with tuna fish were also found in Dascylium we may suggest that this weight without ethnic but with tuna fish may be attributed to Cyzicus. For the denomination one may suggest that it is a fifth part of a mna of about 530 g. But 530 g is slightly higher than the mna weight of Cyzicus of about 500 g. In fact, majority of the weights of Cyzicus do not strictly correspond to their original masses. The reverse of the weight is blank.
