Archaeological description
Circular lead weight measuring 44x42x8 mm and weighing 95,1 grammes ; little worn and corroded. On the obverse, little hole in the middle ; above, incised T ; under, incised TE. The borders are roughly folded on the reverse ; little notches and bumps.
Robinson 1941: Inv. 31.171. Lead weight. Dm. 0.0425 m.,Circular. The obverse is flat with no border. The reverse has a rough incuse square, ill-defined between a square and a circle. The center is pierced by a hole, over which seems to be scratched the letter T, 0.01 m. high. Below the hole, in deeper-cut lines, ΤΕ, 0.009 m. to 0.01 m. high. This is surely an abbreviation for τέταρτον or τεταρτημόριον or τετάρτε = τετάρτη, one-fourth of a mina, which ought to be 104 to 108 grammes as in nos. 2395–2400 [Robinson 1941], but no. 2398 [Robinson 1941] weighs only 100 grammes. There evidently was much variation or inaccuracy. This one is underweight, but it is somewhat worn and part perhaps has been worn or broken off so that originally the weight may have been one hundred or more grammes.Th. 0.0065 m. to 0.008 m., Weight 95 grammes.0.01 m. high.
