Archaeological description
Circular lead weight measuring 49x47x12 mm and weighing 209,1 grammes ; little worn and corroded. On the obverse, incised H in a circular frame ; small notches on the left border. The reverse is slightly damaged on the inferior left border ; quite flat. The right side is flattened ; signs of cut (?) on the left side.
Robinson 1941 : Inv. 31.18. Lead weight. Dm. 0.048 m., Th. 0.012 m., Weight 209 grammes. Cireular. The obverse is flat (dm. 0.038 m.) with rounded ill-defined line of transition to the convex sides. The reverse is also flat (dm. 0.048 m.). In the center of the obverse cut in deep sharp lines is the letter H, 0.016 m. high. This is evidently another ~JUfLVa.iov or half-mina, making a mina standard of 418 grammes, only a slight variant from the Euboic 420 grammes. H cannot here stand for HEMITPITO (one sixth), as su ch an object from the Athenian agora weighs only 127.5 grammes (Hesperia, VII, 1938, p. 362). From House A 8/9 room d. Fifth or early fourth century B. C .
