Findspot UK: A cast lead alloy weight probably dating from the Roman to the Post-Medieval period, (43-1700). The object is circular in plan. The upper face is stamped with the numerals VIII. On each face of the object is a slight raised rim which has been flattened inwards. The lower surface is scarred with several irregular indentations. The object has a mid-white patina. Lead weights are common throughout the Medieval and Post-Medieval period.

RIB II: Not Roman beyond a doubt, but similar in appearance to RIB II.2, 2412.87, 90 and 91, all from Cheshire.
Findspot UK: Biggs, N. & Withers, P. (2000) note that weights of this type with numerals are consistent with the Roman weight-system as well as the averdepois system, thus they could equally be 16th century. Given the growing number of these lead weights being found in the North West, it is more probable that these weights are significantly later in date (17th to 18th Centuries AD). Other examples recorded on the PAS include: LVPL-947F06, LVPL-29C770, LVPL-9463C6 and LVPL-AF7CA4.
