Archaeological description
CPAI III/2: Square in form with plain profile; engraved on the top with a wreath, inlaid with copper, enclosing two seated imperial figures, facing, crowned; each holding spear and globe; the faces, hands and legs, four points on the wreath are inlaid with silver, some of which is missing and their arms and collars and legs are inlaid with copper; among the heads is a small half-figure with wings then a Victory; in the upper corners are two half-figures with wings then may be Angels (or again Victories), their faces are also inlaid with silver; in the lower corners, the denominational mark Β; both inlaid with silver. The bottom is blank. It is a two-ounkia (ounkia of 26.03 g). Patinated. The Late Roman solidi of the 4th century AD also bear similar scenes, i.e. two emperors seated facing and between their heads, a half-figured Victory with wings spread.
