Archaeological description
Tekin 2024: One-Uncia. AE 25.70 g, 25x6 mm. Inv. no. 1.21.92. Find place: Tire. Acquired in 1992. Copper alloy weight, discoid in form with slightly raised rim and plain but convex profile; concentric circles near the edge and in center around centring point on the top. Engraved and punched on the top with reverted A (on left) and ȣ (on right) which refers to one-uncia. A deep cut in center. On the reverse, concentric circles near the edge and in center around centring point; to left, engraved and punched and to right, [S] which refers to six-nomisma in unit. On this weight, two unit marks with theoretically equal masses are indicated: uncia and six-nomisma. It dates to the 6th – 7th centuries AD.
