Archaeological description
Tekin 2024: One-Libra. Pb 684 g, 88x89x15 mm. Inv. no. 1.91.92. Find place: Efes-Çukuriçi Mevki. Acquired in 1992. Lead weight, square in form with raised and beveled edges, handle at the top but missing; trace of a stamp but illegible. On the obverse, ΛΕΙ / ΤΡΑ in relief and in two lines. On the reverse, inscription in five lines: ΙΜ[..]ΒΙ / ΟΥΠΑΡ / ΔΑΛΑ / ΑΓΟΡΑ / ΝΟΜΟΥ. Ιμ[..]βίου Παρδαλα ἀγορανόμου. It gives the name of a certain “Pardalas” who served as agoranomos. Its mass is too high for a commercial libra; it makes ca. 25 unciae. Commercial librae above 20 unciae are very rare. It may be dated to the late 3rd century AD.
