Auction Leu 2022, 2023: Ionia. Smyrna, 2nd-3rd centuries AD. Weight of 1 Litra (Lead, 119 mm, 330.88 g, 12 h), Marcus Aurelius Kladeros, agoranomos. ΑΓΟΡΑΝΟΜΟ/Υ. Rev. Μ ΑΥ ΚΛΑΔΕΡΩ/TOC; below, square countermark: Μ ΑΥΡ Κ/ΛΑΔΕΡ/ΩϹ ΑΓΟP/ΑΝΟΜΟϹ. Pondera 14457 = P. Weiss: Eine Pelta, ein Hipparch und Smyrna, in: Epigraphica Anatolica 34 (2002), pp. 143 and 146, 1 (this weight). A very interesting piece. Slightly rough, otherwise, nearly very fine.

Μ ΑΥ ΚΛΑΔΕΡΩ/ΤΟΣ u. quadratischer Kontrollstempel mit Μ ΑΥΡ Κ/ΛΑΔΕΡ/ΩΣ ΑΓΟΡ/ΑΝΟΜΟΣ. Rs.: ΑΓΟΡΑΝΟΜΟ/Υ. This piece published in 2002! Ex Sammlung Peter Weiß, Kiel, erworben zwischen 1967 und 2015. Condition: Graue Patina, ss.
Weiß 2002: Gewicht in Form eines Halbkreises mit zwei halbkreisförmigen Einziehungen an der geraden Seite. Auf Seite (a) erhabene, der Silhouette folgende Rahmung, auf Seite (b) vertieftes Schriftfeld und schräger Rand. Die Beschriftung folgt auf beiden Seiten der Rundung. Auf Seite (a) unten in der Mitte ein kleiner quadratischer, tiefer Kontrollstempel des Agoranomen. H. 6,8 cm, B. 11,8 cm, D. 7 mm. 330,67 g. Bh. 10-17 mm, beim Stempel ca. 1,5 mm und weniger. Stempel 12 × 12 mm. Helle graubraune Patina mit dunkelbraunen Schmutzauflagen. Oberfläche leicht korrodiert. Gegenwärtig in Privatbesitz.

Auction Gorny & Mosch 2021: Die kaiserzeitlichen Gewichte Kleinasiens tragen im Gegensatz zu ihren hellenistischen Vorläufern meist weder Stadtnamen noch -embleme. Die seltenen peltenförmigen Stücke zeigen dennoch einen Bezug zu ihrer Heimatstadt, denn die Pelta war das typische Schild der Amazonen und die Amazone Smyrna war die Gründerin der gleichnamigen Stadt.
Auction Leu 2022: This weight's curious shape is meant to resemble a so-called pelta, a small shield formed like a crescent, which was traditionally associated with barbarian peoples, such as the Thracians or the Amazons. Most likely, this was meant to refer to the city's eponymous founder, the Amazon Smyrna.
