Archaeological description
Auction Archaeological Center 2007: Palestine, Anonymous (Judaea?). A Roman Hadrianic Period diamond-shaped lead weight with pierced handle, 740.0 gr., 15.3×9.1 cm., 11/9.6 cm. thick. Both sides centers are dominated by a rosette surrounded by three circles, forming two circular registers containing Greek inscriptions. The surfaces are corroded and the letters are partly damaged or covered with corrosion. The obverse inscription reads: Α[ΥΤ]ΟΚΡΑΤΟΡ ΤΡΑΙΑΝΟ [ΑΔΡ]ΙΑΝΟ. The letters in the inner register are illegible. The inscription on the reverse reads: ΑΓΟΡΑ Υ[..]ΑΤΟC Α[....]. In the inner register only two letters are legible: [..]ΑΠ[..]. A further investigation and decipherment of the inscription may be possible. In fair condition. Rare. (A. Spaer coll. no. W-8). Published by Baruch Lifshitz, 1976, no. 9.
Lifshitz 1976: Unveröffentlicht (Sammlung A. Spaer, Jerusalem).
