Archaeological description
Auction CNG 2017: Lead weight. Roman, 1st-2nd centuries AD. Eastern square weight with rounded tab at one end (59x44mm, 90.9g). Face is decorated with a large "L." The weight of 90.9g is appropriate for a quarter libra/three unciae weight, but the marking does not appear to indicate that it is such. The "L" could mark the weight as fifty units of about 1.8g (this would fit nicely with the hemidrachm weight of roughly 1.8g, but why mark a weight as 50 hemidrachms rather than 25 drachms?). Scrape on reverse resulting in a significant bend.
