Ashmolean Museum: Lead weight with Greek inscription.
Meyer 2001–03: Weight of the Roman Period. Square lead weight, 49.79 gr., 3.57 x 3.7 x 0.7 cm. Obv. ΔΙO / YN / KIN. Rev. ITA / ΛIK / ON. AN 2004.48. Two ounces. General signs of wear, otherwise in good condition. The weight inscription appears within an additional, slightly raised band lining the inside of the moulded border.
Autoptic examination: Lead weight, square shape. Signs of wear and corrosion: chippings; bump in the upper corners on the obverse and in the upper right corner on the reverse. Double frame on both faces. On the obverse, letters in relief: ΔỴO YN KIN. On the reverse, letters in relief: ΙΤΑ ΛΙ ΚON.

circumstances
Meyer and Moreno 2004: In 1996 a private collector of ancient coins received a posted parcel containing 43 metal objects, supposedly lead weights from ancient Istria on the western shore of the Black Sea. These came unsolicited from an antiquities dealer based outside Britain, and given that they would otherwise most likely have been dispersed on the open market, the recipient notified the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and deposited the package at the Department of Antiquities.
