Auction Leu 2020: Seleucis and Pieria. Antiochia on the Orontes. Weight of 1/2 Mina (Hemimnaion) (Lead, 74x74 mm, 343.00 g), SE 234 = 79/8 BC. ETOYΣ ΔΛΣ / ΔHMOΣION / HMIMNAI[O]N Two crossed cornucopiae with crown of Isis between. Rev. Latticework design. CPAI -. Cf. Pondera 3566 (SE 211) and 1617 (SE 234, but 1 Mna). Apparently unpublished. Somewhat rough, otherwise, very fine.

Auction Leu 2020: Commercial weights such as this one were produced in cities currently or formerly under Seleukid control, where they were, as indicated by the obverse inscription ΔHMOΣION ('public'), used as official market weights. The weight of 343 g for a Hemimnaion corresponds to a Mina of 150 Attic drachms.
