Archaeological description
Tekin 2014: On the weight, triangular in form, there is a Hippalektryon, a creature whose front half is a horse and back half is a rooster, depicted in relief (Weiss 2008: 714-15). Although the tail resembles a fishtail rather than a rooster's tail (then hippocampus), it should be a hippalektryon. Above, there is a stylized winged caduceus? On the bottom left, there is an inscription of MNA. The bottom is left blank but added an eхtra piece of iron to increase the mass. Although it is seen sometimes on the coins of Adramyteum, in fact, Hippalektryon is the badge of Lampsacus and seen on the Classical and Hellenistic coins of the city. Lampsacene weights vith Hippalektryon are known from other collections, too. MNA, placed on the bottom left, refers to its denomination.
