Archaeological description
Tekin 2014: On the weight, triangular in form, there is a Hippalektryon, a creature whose front half is a horse and back half is a rooster, depicted in relief (Weiss 2008: 714-15). Although the tail resembles a fishtail rather than a rooster's tail (then hippocampus), it should be a hippalektryon. Above, there is a stylized winged caduceus? On the bottom left, there is an inscription of MNA. The bottom is left blank but added an eхtra piece of iron to increase the mass. Although it is seen sometimes on the coins of Adramyteum, in fact, Hippalektryon is the badge of Lampsacus and seen on the Classical and Hellenistic coins of the city. Lampsacene weights vith Hippalektryon are known from other collections, too. MNA, placed on the bottom left, refers to its denomination.

Additional comment
Tekin 2014: While the present weight is 600 g, another weight, previously published is 499 g (Weiss 2008: 713, no. 1). There is a difference of about 100 g between two weights, which both bear the same denominational name on them. Perhaps the value of mass/weight standard was raised in time and an adjustment was made by adding an iron piece. Assuming that, previously, there was an Euboic-Attic mna of standard 112 (4.36 g х 112 = 488.32 g or roughly 490 g) but later the standard was raised to 138 (4.36 g х 138 = 601.68 g). Mna of standard 138 was used 2nd century ВC. Weight may be dated to the Late Hellenistic Period (2nd century ВC?).
Tekin 2014: dimensions of the triangle = 92mm, 94mm, 87 mm (three sides).
