Archaeological description
Froehner: Poids carré en plomb, tv. À Athènes. H et L 0,052 à 0,053. Amphore panathénaique Σ Ο δημό(σιον). Poids : 298 gr. 10 décigr. C'est le poids normal. Soutzo, Etalons pondéraux, p. 53, en cite quatre autres.
BnF: Poids athénien carré. Plomb. L. 5,4 cm ; l. 5,4 cm ; Poids: 298,1 gr. Ep. 1 cm (1,72 cm avec le relief). Une amphore panathénaïque. Trouvé à Athènes.
Autoptic examination: Lead weight, square shape. Signs of wear and corrosion: light vertical cuts on the left of the amphora; grey bumps and strokes on the relief (amphora's body), the edges and the corners and on the reverse; large groove on the right edge on the reverse, smaller one alongside; small grooves on the lower side. Rounded corners; straight edges and sides. On the obverse, little frame (?) and depiction of an amphora in relief. The amphora's body is oval. The handles extend below the rim; the right one is rounded and the left one is right angle. In the four corners, letters in relief: Δ E M Ο. (Height without relief: 1.1 cm).
