Archaeological description
Froehner: Poids carré de bronze, étalon athénien. H et L 44 mill. Épaiss. 16 mil. Patine verte. Amphore en relief saillant ; dessus, contremarque carré : chouette à dr. ΤΡΙ τρι(τημόριον). Sur la tranche de droite, en grandes lettres pointillées : ΔΕΜΟΣΙ puis dans le haut : ΟΝ. Le poids des examplaires en plomb varie entre 1013,82 et 828,27 (Pernice, p. 33).
BnF: Poids étalon athénien. Bronze à patine verte. H: 1,6 cm; L: 1,6 cm; ep. 1,6 cm; 2,6 cm (relief); poids: 291 gr. ΤΡΙ gravé en creux. Une amphore, sur le haut de la panse, une contremarque oblongue représentant une chouette à droite, la tête de face. Sur la tranche de doite, en pointillés: [ΔΕΜΟΣΙΟΝ](ajourd'hui invisible)
Autoptic examination: Bronze weight, square shape. Signs of wear and corrosion: chippings; brownish; light cuts on the upper and left sides; light bump with a hole on the upper left (later addition?). Straight corners, edges and sides. On the obverse, depiction of an amphora in high relief. The handles of the amphora rise from below the rim, form a loop and descend to the shoulders; there is a ring between the neck and the amphora's body and between the body and the foot. On the right edge, incised letters: TPI. On the amphora's body, rectangular countermark with an owl to the right. (Height without relief: 1.6 cm)
