Archaeological description
BnF: Poids (quart de mine ou 8ème de mine forte?) carré. Plomb. L. 4 cm ; l. 4 cm; ép. 1,2 cm; Poids: 115,07 gr. Δ/E/M/O (rétrograde) disposés aux quatres angles ; H/MI/CE au tour de l'amphore. La partie inférieure d'une amphore (ou tortue ?).
Babelon & Blanchet 1895 [hanwritten]: Poids carré, plomb. Un quart de mine ou 8e de mine forte (?). Une face est décorée de la partie inférieure d’une amphore. Inscription Δ|E|M|O (δεμοσιον) disposée aux 4 angles et inscription rétrograde entre les autres lettres H|MI|TE (ἡμιτε[ταρτον]) autour de l’amphore retrograde entre les 4 autres lettres. 40 mill. 115 gr. M 5911.
Autoptic examination: Lead weight, square shape. Signs of wear and corrosion: chippings; light round hollows on the obverse; light cut in the letter O on the upper right and under the tortoise on the right; light groove on the lower right on the reverse; stroke and hollow on the upper side and small strokes on the right side. Straight corners, edges and sides; the reverse is flat. On the obverse, depiction of a half-tortoise in relief. There are dots on the tortoise's shell and a rim around it. There are two little dots for its front legs and a bigger elongated for its head. Around the tortoise, letters in relief: H MI TE. In the four corners (retrograde), bigger letters in relief: Δ E Μ Ο. (Height without relief: 0.65 cm).
