Autoptic examination:
Roman basalt weight in the shape of a truncated sphere; dark colour with red veins, well-polished. It is in very good conditions; the edges of the bases are well defined; however, the body is not perfectly symmetrical. The diameter of the sphere is 2.05 cm; the diameter of both bases is 1.4 cm.

Additional comment
The weight was found in the archaeological excavation site of Piazza Minghetti, Bologna. The excavation of the site started in 1904 in order to build the new Palazzo delle Poste, and led to the recovery of numerous Roman artefacts.
