Archaeological description

Gatier and Planet 1992: Poids de Tyr en plomb, rectangulaire. Le droit comporte un cadre, en pente vers un panneau central sur lequel figurent trois signes en relief  ΒΙ. Le cadre est orné d’un décor d’oves et de fers de lance. Le revers, quadrillé, losangé, porte le signe dit de Tanit (triangle surmonté d’un trait horizontal et d’un cercle) en relief. Ht. 28 mm; l. 31 mm; ép. sur les rebords 6 mm, 7 mm sur les lettres; pds. 57,98 g.

Uncertain provenance: the label has disappeared. According to Gatier and Planet 1992, p. 4: “L’inventaire E du Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, rédigé par Paul Dissard, signale à la cote E.262, l’achat en août 1890 de «quelques tessères et divers fragments antiques, plombs recueillis sur les ordres de M.A. Fritsch-Estrangin par son correspondant de Beyrouth». Il est précisé qu’il s’agit d’un don fait par Henri Morin-Pons. Malheureusement, sans autre information, il n’est pas possible de savoir quels sont les objets concernés par cette notice. Seule une fiche du musée, rédigée en 1969, reprend la cote E.262 pour l’attribuer à un poids de plomb, notre N° l. Il est donc impossible de dire si cette cotation est exacte, puisque les étiquettes des objets ont disparu, mais nous l’acceptons, à titre d’hypothèse, et nous proposons de voir dans trois autres poids, nos N° 2, 3 et 4, des éléments du même lot E.262 donné par Henri Morin-Pons.”
