Archaeological description
Autoptic examination:
Roman basalt weight in the shape of a truncated sphere, with lead knob on the top which served as a handle (or weight calibration ?). The stone is black and well-polished, and shows little sign of wear, with only some scratches on the bases, and particularly around the handle. The latter appears coarse and so does the junction between the metal and the stone (as a result, the handle is not well fixed into the stone). The diameter of the upper base is 6.5 cm and that of the lower base is 10.4 cm. The height of the stone is 5.2 cm; the total height, including the handle, is 7.6 cm.
