Archaeological description
Autoptic examination:
Roman bronze weight in the shape of a truncated sphere. The piece shows some signs of corrosion and the surface appears rather coarse. The lower base is slightly concave. On the upper base, there are two letters inserted and made of a different metal; these are a monogram for the Greek diphthong ου (as in οὐγκία) and an A, and indicate the denomination of the weight: it is an Uncia, corresponding to 1/12 of a Libra. A small dot is incised in the centre of both bases. The diameter of the sphere is 1.62 cm; the diameter of both bases measures 0.9 cm.
