Archaeological description
Barrel-shaped. The weight has the form of two truncated cones with a distinct linear edge around the waist where the bases of the two truncated cones meet (i.e. carinated profile) ; centring points on the top and bottom ; raised rim on the top only ; impressed with an arabic word (unclear) in relief on the top ; on the bottom a deep linear groove ; patinated and corroded. Although the mass of dirham is theoretically 2.97g., majority survives at 2.95g. If we accept our weight as a five-dirham, the nits mass should be 14.75g. ; but it is 12.43g. so there is a loss of 2.32g. which can be explained by the deep incision on the bottom.
