Archaeological description
Autoptic examination:
Roman bronze weight in the shape of a truncated sphere. The piece shows signs of corrosion: the entire surface appears coarse and oxidized. The upper base is slightly depressed due to corrosion; the lower base presents two letters, in different metal, inserted in the centre: these are the monogram for the Greek diphthong ου (as in οὐγκία) and a Β, and indicate the denomination of the weight – it is a sextans, corresponding to two ounces. The diameter of the sphere is 2.27 cm; the diameter of the upper base is 1.1 cm, and that of the lower base is 1.18 cm.
