Archaeological description
Autoptic examination:
Roman basalt weight in the shape of a truncated sphere; dark colour, well-polished. It is in good conditions, except for one scratch on the edge of the lower base. The upper base is incised with three dots arranged to form a triangle; they indicate the denomination of the weight: it is a quadrans, corresponding to three ounces. On the lower base, there seem to be four dots, but probably these are markings due to wear. The diameter of the sphere is 3.88 cm; the diameter of the upper base is 2.3 cm and that of the lower base is 3 cm.
