Archaeological description
Autoptic examination:
Roman basalt weight in the shape of a truncated sphere; dark colour, well-polished. It is in good conditions, but fragmented for a large portion of the upper base is broken. In the centre of the upper base, three dots are incised and arranged to form a triangle – they indicate the denomination of the weight: it is a quadrans, corresponding to three ounces. Next to the dots, the stone is scratched. The lower base is plain. The diameter of the sphere is 4 cm; the diameter of the upper base is 2.4 cm and that of the lower base is 2.8 cm.
