Archaeological description
Autoptic examination:
Roman basalt weight in the shape of a truncated sphere; dark colour with brown spots, well-polished. It shows signs of wear, with scratches and large dents; the edges of the bases are slightly smoothened and a portion of the lower face is broken. The lower base is incised with four dots geometrically arranged to form a square (one dot is barely visible due to damage to the surface of the object); they indicate the denomination of the weight: it is a triens, corresponding to four ounces. The upper base is plain. The diameter of the sphere is 4.3 cm; the diameter of the upper base is 2.8 cm and that of the lower base is 2.9 cm.
