Archaeological description
BnF: Demi-mine attique carrée. Plomb. L. 4,7 cm; épaisseur 1,5 cm; Poids: 325 gr. HM-I (ἡμιμναίον) dans le champ droit; METPO (μετρονόμων) dans le champ gauche. Une amphore; sur la panse, une contremarque représentant une tête casquée (?); au pourtour, une bordure en relief.
Babelon & Blanchet 1895: Poids quadrangulaire. Demi-mine attique. Une des faces est décorée d’une amphore. À droite de l’amphore, la légende HMI (ἡμιμναῖον), à gauche METPO (μετρονόμων). Un léger rebord sur le pourtour. Plomb. Poids, 325 gr. Long. Des côtés, 47 mill. Acquis en 1891. [Babelon & Blanchet 1895]
Autoptic examination: Lead weight, square shape. Signs of wear and corrosion: very light strokes on the frame; small bumps on the amphora and the countermark; light cuts and grooves on the sides; on the reverse, small strokes, greyish and very slightly concave edges. Straight corners, edges and sides; the upper right corner is flattened and folded. On the obverse, thin frame and depiction of an amphora in relief. The amphora’s neck, foot and handles are long and thin. The handles extend to the rim. On the right and left edges, letters in thin relief: HMI METPO. On the amphora’s body, round countermark with a helmeted head of Athena to the right (?). [LW]
