Archaeological description
Autoptic examination:
Roman basalt weight in the shape of a truncated sphere; dark colour with brown spots. It is in fair conditions, with only some scratches; the body is slightly deformed so that it does not appear perfectly spherical; it is difficult to say whether this is due to wear or manufactural defect. The upper base presents nine dots incised to form the letter S and indicating the denomination of the weight: it is a semis, corresponding to six ounces. The other base is plain. The diameter of the sphere is 4.8 cm; the diameter of the upper base is 3.3 cm, and that of the lower base is 3.5 cm.
