Archaeological description
Autoptic examination:
Roman basalt weight in the shape of a truncated sphere; back colour and well-polished, it shows little to no sign of wear, with only minor superficial scratches on the upper base. Six small dots are incised in the centre of the upper base in the shape of an S and indicate the denomination of the weight: it is a semis, equivalent to half Libra and corresponding to 6 ounces (however, only three dots are clearly visible, while the other three have been almost entirely erased). The lower base presents brown veins near the old inventory label. The diameter of the upper base is 3.2 cm; that of the lower base is 3.3 cm.
