Archaeological description
Glass weight. Disc. Am Rand beschädigt. Colour (Farbe): dunkelblau. Iconography: No cross. No wreath.
CPAI III/2: 7th century AD. Eastern Mediterranean. Weight for a gold coin (tremissis) or a silver coin (half siliqua). Glass, 17 x 3 mm; 1.20 g. Inv. no. PMA 2921. Acquired in 2007. Description: Dark-blue coloured, transparent round weight with a central impression. The rim is slightly damaged. In the centre, a retrograde N with small circles at the ends of the letter is stamped. Presumably the letter stands for the abbreviation of nomisma which means coin. Marks indicating the value of the weight occur on glass weights in the 7th century in the Levantine coastal area in the Byzantine and early Umayyad context.
