Archaeological description
Glass weight. Disc. Colour (Farbe): dunkelblau. Iconography: No cross. Wreath: line.
CPAI III/2: 1st half of the 7th century AD. Eastern Mediterranean. Weight for a silver coin (light siliqua) or a gold coin (tremissis). Glass, 18 x 3 mm; 1.55 g. Inv. no. PMA 2866. Acquired in 2007. Description: Dark-blue coloured round weight with a central impression. In a circle, the cruciform monogram is composed of the letters H on the left, A at the bottom, K on the right, and the ligature at the top. The monogram can be read as HPAKΛl, the name of the Byzantine Emperor (610-641). Similar weights were found in a deposit in Sardis. At the right arm of the monograms of the Sardis glass weights, a pendant bar occurs in addition that can be interpreted as the letter pi or gamma. The monogram can also be found on Byzantine silver stamps.
