Archaeological description
Autoptic examination: Square bronze weight. One face presents a small frame around the edges and a slightly depressed panel; here a dolphin is in relief. Above and below the dolphin, is engraved an inscription; the letters are almost erased and the text is hardly legible. The other face is plain. The object presents some sign of wear and is rather corroded, with the typical green patina.
Krapivina 2003: Not cleaned; well preserved. Of rectangular shape, measuring 2.4×2.2×0.4 cm. Weight 16.91 g. The edges of the object are uneven, and probably for that reason it has not been cleaned, as this might cause loss in weight. On the obverse there is a rather small frame on three sides and a dolphin l. with the inscription ΟΛΒΙΟ above it and a three-line inscription beneath. The inscription is poorly imprinted; below and to the right of it, some burrs of metal are discernible; the scarcely legible text has been roughly reconstructed as ΟΕΥΚΑΙ(?) | ΟΥΣΚΑΕ | [...]ΑΝΑ[...] possibly representing three names. The weight corresponds to four drachms of the Euboic-Attic system of standard 100. Parallels have been recorded in the Athenian Agora and in Olynthos.
